Transforming STEM Education Through Experimento

How Be-MINT Experimento Teacher Training Is Transforming STEM Education

From November 24th to 28th, 2025, 21 passionate teachers from 10 schools came together to transform the way science is taught in their classrooms. Organized by the Empowering Africans through Education Initiative (EAE) in partnership with Siemens Stiftung, the Be-MINT 2.0 Experimento Teacher Training gave educators hands-on tools and techniques to make STEM lessons engaging, interactive, and practical—even in classrooms with limited resources.

Hands-On Learning That Inspires

During the five-day program, teachers participated in experiments across key topics in Energy, Health, and the Environment, gaining practical experience and confidence to bring science to life. Activities included:

  • Water Purification – Demonstrating how to make safe drinking water using simple, accessible materials.
  • Acid and Base Tests – Exploring chemical reactions in a safe and interactive way.
  • Separation Techniques (Magnetisation) – Learning how to separate mixtures using magnetic properties.
  • Electricity Measurement – Understanding electrical circuits and voltage in a hands-on format.
  • Building a Respiratory System Model – Bringing biology to life with tangible demonstrations.
  • Constructing a Wind Vane – Connecting classroom lessons to real-world applications in weather observation.

These activities showed that hands-on learning can be accessible, effective, and fun, even in resource-constrained classrooms. Teachers collaborated, experimented, and left the training confident that they could replicate these lessons immediately.

Extending the Impact Beyond Training

To ensure the learning continued beyond the classroom, each participating school received an Experimento box, containing all the materials needed to start practical lessons right away.

On the final day, we visited two schools to witness the teachers in action. The energy in the classrooms was incredible—students were curious, engaged, and excited, while teachers delivered lessons confidently and creatively, making STEM learning truly come alive.

Why Teacher Development Matters

The Be-MINT Experimento Teacher Training reminds us that investing in teachers is investing in the future. When educators have the right tools, guidance, and support, they can create learning experiences that spark curiosity, foster innovation, and inspire the next generation of scientists.

We’re proud of what these teachers achieved during the training and are committed to expanding this model to reach more schools across Nigeria, empowering both teachers and students to embrace STEM in a practical and exciting way.
